Redistricting Democracy Away
THIS WEEK: Redistricting Democracy Away
Redistricting? What to say?
All hell has broken loose.
Here’s some background:
What’s redistricting and gerrymandering, anyway?
Why did the Roberts Court hate the Voting Rights Act?
So, what was the Voting Rights Act, anyway?
Was Calais an election-denier?
Are we really post-racial?
Where can I get state-specific info?
Play the game: Can you gerrymander your party to power?
STORY IDEAS
We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that the most important stories on local redistricting efforts will:
Inform communities about how rare it is for other democracies to do all this redistricting
Explore how much race plays into this
Show the impact that this is going to have on voters
Unpack why this has become such a thing in the first place
Include stories of how this will impact actual voters
Consider the troubling past of the man who filed the complaint that the Supreme Court used to basically dismantle what was left of the Voting Rights Act
