No wonder, we are having a hard time getting traction for stories that outline the demise of our democracy!
Meanwhile, Joe Rogan – a guy who rarely encounters a conspiracy theory he can’t get excited about — is the most popular history teacher on the internet.
How do you provide the kind of accurate historical background people need to really care?
Reporting Right has some ideas.
Get familiar with:
The way other democratic republics went down
Become SchoolHouse Rock 2.0
A lot of Gen Xers know what a bill is because of that iconic show. Consider ways your newsroom can creatively explain (via video) how government was intended to work.
If your editor and/or publisher are allergic to truthful statements about authoritarian measures and the ways in which they violate the constitution, why not ask the people?
Offer a brief primer on what the Constitution/Bill of Rights says; then invite your community to weigh in:
Is it a free speech violation when the attorney general threatens to jail people for speaking their mind?
The constitution, the Power of the Purse, Trump: Do we have a problem?
Religious freedom, what did they say, what did they mean?
Make everyone a creator
We are not always a fan of the work being done at the NYT. But in this case, we approve. The Times recently asked its readers to send it its own Ice videos. You should too.
