Make sure you tell your audience what rights the first amendment protects and why these rights matter to everyday lives! A lot of people don’t seem to know. (See above!)
Know your own free speech rights.
Be aware the there are efforts to silence journalists — not only in far away lands — but here.
Some of those are coming from inside the newsroom.
Some of those are coming from the government.
Intimidation, defunding media, violence and lawsuits can be media suppression efforts.
Understand that FIRE - Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression is a free-speech friendly group and may offer good insight; but it also has ties to right-wing and libertarian groups that help fund it. So, it’s not always neutral.
