Top Story: Making a Truth Sandwich
Let’s hope 2024 isn’t another lying year…But let’s face it, journalists are likely to grapple with the lies of dishonest politicians, radical think tanks and anti-democratic political operatives for the long haul.
And now, as the 2024 election cycles heats up, lies about immigration, voters, public education and what exactly happened on Jan 6, 2021 are likely to be back in the headlines.
Already, these negative influences are eroding trust in media and readers’ ability to not unwittingly, spread their own misinformation.
Luckily, there’s a rhetorical tool for that, that you can use in your own stories. It’s called the Truth Sandwich. It’s a way to tell readers the truth, while exposing the lies of misinformation spreaders, without spreading their misinformation.
